Area Mental Health Center's summer psychosocial program will allow your child to work on:

  • Daily Problem Solving
    • How to identify problems
    • Learning how to deal with difficult & confusing situations
    • Develop and practice problem solving skills for quick implementation
    • Learn how to apply these skills in school to improve grades
  • Social Skills
    • Following instructions
    • Accepting & giving criticism
    • Accepting "No" as an answer
    • Resisting Peer Pressure
    • Giving & Accepting compliments
    • Disagreeing appropriately
    • Making an apology
    • Interacting with peers
  • Appropriate use of leisure time
    • Learning creative, inexpensive activities to do with friends or siblings without the television
    • Using the imagination
    • Participating in healthy, educational activities that are fun & entertaining
  • Personal Relationships
    • Initiating friendships
    • Increase appropriate positive social interactions with peers
    • Replacing negative self talk statements with positive ones
    • Skills for maintaining positive relationships
    • Identifying and verbalizing ways in which one has been emotionally or physically hurt
    • Communication skills
    • Recognizing appropriate and inappropriate relationships
  • Personal Health & Hygiene
    • Basic self care techniques
    • Importance of good hygiene
    • Eating healthy
    • Increase awareness of exercise and activity
    • Improve management of stress and anger through exercise and activities
