Attendant Care is one-on-one support and supervision. The
purpose is to prevent hospitalization and to support treatment and family needs in the community. Specially trained staff are employed by the Area
Mental Health Center
for this purpose.
How is one referred to Attendant Care?
A person may be referred to Attendant Care by their AMHC therapist,
by an on-call
therapist, or by medical, law enforcement, or court services
personnel.
Where does Attendant Care take place?
Attendant Care takes place in a neutral setting, such as the Area
Mental Health Center or
local area hospitals. Other sites, as appropriate, may be made
available. These include
home, church, or the local Law Enforcement Center.
How long does Attendant Care last?
The maximum amount of time provided by Attendant Care to any one
crisis is 72 hours. Most
average about 3 to 5 hours. An Attendant Care plan may include
regularly scheduled
hours.
