Area Mental Health Center has received a $64,000 rental housing grant award. Funding is available for housing and rental deposit assistance for individuals with severe mental illness residing in Ford and Finney Counties. Funding for the award is provided through the Kansas Housing Resources Corporation Tenant Based Rental Assistance Program.
“We are excited to have this opportunity through our agency to help individuals in Finney and Ford counties,” reports Khristy Guebara, Director of Community Support Services for Area Mental Health Center. “Our hope is to have an impact on as many individuals as we can. Our organization strives to offer comprehensive services in order to encourage these individuals to lead the best life possible.”
The purpose of the TBRA grant is to provide rental assistance to residents in the two counties. Under the terms of the HUD HOME Program, tenants must be at or below 60% of the area median income and must have documentation that they have a severe mental illness. Rental assistance is up to 24 months. Tenants must select units of their choice throughout the two counties in independent living units.
Applicants must complete an application with Area Mental Health Center and be approved for assistance prior to move in. Documentation including a birth certificate/social security card, verification(s) relating to severe mental illness and third party income verification are required for completed applications. Rental units selected must pass U.S. Housing and Urban Development Housing Quality Standard inspections prior to move-in.
Applicants will be processed on a first come first served basis. Area Mental Health Center Community Support Services is located at 3000 N. 14th Street in Dodge City and at 531 Campus View Street in Garden City. Application hours are from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm- Monday through Friday.
